London, Trübner. First Edition. Blue Cloth, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 3 volume set, published 1878, 1880 and 1885. Together with the index compiled by John F.G Stokes published in 1909 by the Bishop Museum Press in Honolulu. xvi, 247; vii, 399; xii, 292 pages. Folding genealogical table at the end of volume I. The index has 86 pages. Volume I has a letter pasted to the half title page from Peter H. Buck, the director of the Bishop Museum to Mr A.T. Pycroft, whose book collection was auctioned in Auckland, New Zealand, in November 2011. The letter is signed by Buck and dated July 29, 1936 and refers to a meeting between Buck and Pycroft in Auckland and the published work of Abraham Fornander. The spines show some darkening (mainly volume II), and some wear (mainly volume III). There is a scratch mark on the spine of volume I. Abraham Fornander (1812 - 1887) was a Swedish-born emigrant who became an important Hawaiian journalist, judge, and ethnologist. Good.
