Rear Admiral Thomas Alexander Cochrane, 10th Earl of Dundonald, Marquês do Maranhão GCB RN (1775 - 31 October), styled Lord Cochrane between 1778 and 1831, was a radical politician and naval officer. He was one of the most daring and successful captains of the Napoleonic Wars. His life and exploits served as inspiration for the naval fiction of twentieth-century novelists C. S. Forester (the character of Horatio Hornblower) and Patrick O'Brian.
