Translated by John Crockett with an essay by historian Rory Sweetman added. Copy is signed by both. One of the first Benedictine Monks sent to NZ, he arrive in 1879 and returned home in 1887, having worked in Gisborne, Auckland and the Coromandel. He became a monk to dodge the draft, unique amongst European commentators of the nineteenth century for his controversial view that New Zealand belonged to the Maori, and that the British had no moral right to take it from them. His ardently expressed opinions appear to be the reason behind the book's being banned in the early twentieth century, and with the current reviewing on our country's past, is no doubt one reason behind its current success. CONDITION pp 271 in unread condition. As New/N/A. Signed by Authors.
