Originally published in book form 1895, this edition carries 6 pencil illustration by the Author who was also a noted Cartoonist. A Gothic Novel, it was wildly popular when released and is famous for introducing the phrase "in the altogether" (naked) and the term "Svengali" for a man with dominating powers over a protegee, as well as indirectly inspiring the name of the trilby hat, originally worn on stage by a character in the play based on the novel. CONDITION Decorative cloth bds with Burgundy Buckram spine cloth and bright Gilt title, 275 pages are crisp and clean, end pages a little toned. DJ heavily toned to edges, chipped to spine ends with two short tears to front. OVERWEIGHT. Very Good/Good.
