Title: The Diorama, or, Amusing Sketches of Life and Manners
Description: London, Henry Fisher, Son and Co. 1826, First Edition. Half-Leather, 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Ill.: M Craig. Not Dated [1826 BL] Title page 'In this volume, our performance has exceeded our engagement. We promised a diorama but we have exhibited a panoramic view of men and things. It is however, such a view as will furnish amusement, without contaminating the minds of whom its varieties entertain. In the diversities of this work, moroseness may learn to be vivacious, on beholding cheerfulness indulged with enjoyments, at which even seriousness cannot take offence.' Interesting content with a mix of customs and habits from around the world including from Australia, Feegee, the Shetalnds, adventure shipwrecks and whaling, as well as humous incidents, history and science. CONDITION Brown leather spine and cnrs (some loss to spine leather, split at front joint though solid) ppiv, text is in double column layout with each column numbered to 1520 (760 pages) with frontis illsu and 23 nice wood block illus internally. Mostly bright and crisp internally there is a tear to one page with no loss, name stamp x 2 to front eps, name in pencil to title pages, frontis stained, old repair to first few pages which had come adrift from top of spine, otherwise odd finger mark or stain internally.
