Description: New Zealand, The Cawthron Institute. 1963, First Edition. Hard Cover with dust jacket, 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Thomas Cawthron was a Nelson pioneer who arrived in 1849. He became a successful businessman charitable patron of the City of Nelson. Cawthron died in 1915, and his will set out the terms for the "purchase of land and the construction and maintenance of an industrial and technical school, institute and museum, to be called the "Cawthron Institute", which opened in 1921 becoming one of New Zealand's most distinguished scientific and research establishments, particularly in the field of agriculture and primary production. Written in two parts the biography and the institute followed by an extensive lists of its publications from 1919 to 1959. CONDITION Red bds are clean and unworn, map eps showing the NZ provinces front, Nelson and its environs rear, pp x 248 with 8 b/w photo illus, There are four appendices and a comprehensive index. Printed on high gloss paper. Copy is crisp and bright with name to front pastedown. DJ has a little atmospheric staining to spine and edges due to porous paper type and a small scuff bottom front. Near Fine/Very Good.
